Verizon FIOS is installed…

Verizon FIOS is installed finally…

We are extremely faster in the office… I really look forward to uploading some stuff soon…

We went with the 15 Down/ 15  Up and it’s great!!!

This has been a long project and I am glad it is done…

Comcast Profits Up 54%

This is not surprising….

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Comcast Corp., the nation’s largest cable operator, reported a 54 percent increase in fourth-quarter profit on solid revenue gains as customers spent more for cable TV.

In a bow to the desires of agitated shareholders unhappy with its weakened stock price, Comcast also said it will start paying a 6.25-cent quarterly dividend starting at the end of April.

Moreover, the Philadelphia-based company is pledging that by the end of 2009, it will spend the remaining $6.9 billion it has allotted to buy back shares — in a bid to satisfy a growing chorus on Wall Street to step up its repurchases.

Shares jumped more than 7 percent, or $1.28, to $19.09 at the open of trading.

In the fourth quarter, Comcast reported a net income of $602 million, or 20 cents per share, compared with $390 million, or 13 cents, in the same period a year ago.

I know lots of people that have moved off Comcast to Verizon FIOS. I guess their profits are up because they keep raising their prices.

Verizon FIOS is coming….

Finally Verizon FIOS is coming to Richmond Community Church…

They were out here on Monday to run the line from the Verizon drop into our building. Then yesterday they ran the line under the ground underneath Nuckols Road. Today it is all hookup, only one more step until we go live!

I have some pictures that I will upload later…

“Bring Your Own Device”

So Verizon looks like they are opening up their network for you to bring your own device onto. This would be really nice especially for people who move from one cell phone company to another. There of course some minimum technical requirements.

Here’s the article I found on it:

Verizon Wireless has stunned the wireless world by announcing that by sometime next year it will open its network to “any apps, any device.”

There is a lot of fine print, but the essence appears to be that Verizon will offer two flavors of service: its traditional bundle, which typically includes a subsidy for phone purchase and various other features, and “bring your own” device service, which will be open to any device that meets “minimum technical standards.”

So I look forward to seeing what this looks like in the end. Will other companies follow suit? Guess we have to wait and see.

We have been down but we are back up…

All day long the church’s internet has been down… Almost the entire week and into last week a little bit… We have had some sparatic times of service…

I had to call and talk to the Verizon help desk… The lady was nice but she didn’t want to help me so I asked for a Help Desk Manager (Billy) and he was just very very rude… He told me he really didn’t care if we had the internet or not and that he had dealt with politcal people the same way (doubt he had talked them like that)… I politely ended that conversation then called a local tech that I knew and asked for his help… He gave me another tech’s phone number and he came out and got us all back online… Thanks Verizon Tech. Waley, your a great help!!!

We got back on about an hour ago and since then we have been busting through everything (e-mails, uploads, etc)… I was fortunate enough to bring my laptop to the office today so I went to Panera this morning and worked for a bit… Well I gotta get back to work… I will blog some more later…
