A bunch of updates in one post…

Okay so I have been very very busy… So I wanted to take a minute from the busyness and post a bunch of updates…

School:

It’s over!!! Well for the next couple of weeks… The ending of a semester is always fun, because I am done with those classes forever!!!

I am going to summer school (May 19-June 6 and June 30-July 30). I wanted to get some math classes out of the way.

Home:

Well my brother is OFFICIALLY a MARINE!!! I am very very proud of him. He left on Tuesday morning (0140) to go to Marine Combat Training and I already miss him. I won’t get to see him again until July 4th weekend.

Church:

Well, Pastor Joey resigned a couple of weeks ago, so I have been helping out more with the service planning and stuff. It’s been really fun though. I have been gotten to really know more of the Arts Leaders and other great people in the church.

Recruit, Recruit, Recruit. I recently challenged all of the Technology/Media Leaders to recruit 1 person a month for the next 4 months. If we can all accomplish this goal, that would be almost 40 new people in ministry. I personally have been recruiting and so far have about 6 new people in ministry, all of which are great people and very talented. I am sooo excited about this new department initiative.

Willow Creek Arts Conference 2008, I am going!!! YEH!!! I am really excited that I am going. Coming this year with me is Tori (Media Production Team Leader) and Marty (Music Director), we are all ready to learn and suck in all the information we can. As a side note: If you are going to the Arts Conference and want to meet up shoot me a comment back and maybe we can do coffee or something, I really want to network and meet other media/technology people.

Well that’s all the updates I have for now… Thanks for taking the time to read my post and looking at my blog…

HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!

Willow Creek Leadership Summit – Closing Thoughts

WOW!!!

I feel inspired…

I feel fired up…

I feel ready to go…

I feel challenged (in a good way)…

Every year the leaders from our church have to put together an action plan… I am going to work on this later today… I look forward to the coming weeks when I begin to implement some of my action plan into my ministries and life…

WC – Leadership Summit – Session 10 – Bill Hybels

INSPIRE ME!!!

Bill Hybels delivered on it… He inspired me… I am so fired up and ready to do what God wants me to do… I am so fired up and ready to see people get saved… I am so fired up and ready to see people’s lives changed forever…

I have some notes on this which I will post later but WOW!!!! I am so fired up…

Kirk Franklin did a great job on “Our God Is An Awesome God” and let me tell you He is!!!

WC – Leadership Summit – Session 9 – Jimmy Carter

Kirk Franklin opened us up with some praise and worship and just got our blood pumping… He has a ton of energy… He is however more of an entertainer than a singer… I noticed he doesn’t sing that much… Just a side note… The praise and worship was very good and just in time to get my spirit lifted and ready to hear all the good stuff of the day…

Jimmy Carter was the first session today… This was a great interview… I have never really heard Jimmy Carter speak but I have a true respect for the past president… He did a great job telling his story about his childhood, his days as governor, his days as president and what he is doing now…

I am very interested to get involved in Habitat for Humanity… I will seeking some information on that this week…

I will post any more thoughts later when I have my notes in front of me…

WC – Leadership Summit – Session 6 – Colin Powell

This is the one of the best sessions so far… Colin Powell brought a great perspective to leadership… He talked about his Powell Principle’s…

Here’s what I got:

Leadership is action oriented.

Leaders solve problems.

Promote a clash of ideas.

Create a noisy system.

Only people get things done.

Maintain an open door policy.

Probe the organization.

Reward your best performers, get rid of bad performers.

Be prepared to disappoint people.

Check your EGO at the DOOR.

Have fun in your command.

Fit no stereotypes.

Perpetual optisism is a multiplier.

Things always look better in the morning.

Avoid war if it all possible.

Trust the element of instinct.

Prepare to be lonely.

CLOSING THOUGHT BY COLIN: All of us have a debt of service.

I thought this session was really good… I have some thoughts on the next session I will post them later…

WC – Leadership Summit – Session 5 – Michael Porter

By the way we did get to watch the ending of Marcus Buckingham’s session from yesterday (Thanks Willow!!!)… I think that is still by far the best session…

This morning began with Erik (The Canadian Guitar Player), he played he guitar but not just any normal guitar… It was like a drum kit + guitar all in one… He did a great job…

The first sesssion this morning was Michael Porter… He is talking about planning out Community Programs… He has made some great points so far (he’s still talking right now)…

Here’s some quick thoughts:

Social Activities need to be EFFECTIVE!!!

Shift the Mindset.

Many organizations get involved in too many programs and get spread way too thin. Get involved in few programs and get very focused in those programs.

4 Questions Before Community Involvement
1. Have we defined goals?
2. What set of needs are we addressing?
3. What is our strategy?
4. How do we create alignment (ownership)?

Worthiness of the cause is not basis on which you pick cause, all causes are important.

Don’t re-invent the wheel… OUTSOURCE if there is someone better that can do it.

Don’t confuse strategy and goals (“I want to create 250 jobs” – That is a goal not a strategy)

Well this session was good… I am really looking forward to the next session with Colin Powell…
